Jim joined the Department in 2001. He teaches Fundamentals of Costume Technology (Stage Makeup and Sewing for the Theatre) and Costume Technology (Draping and Crafts) and he serves as the Costume Studio Supervisor for University Theatre Productions and Operations. Jim is the founder of our innovation activities related to Summer Theatre Camp for High School Students, which started Summer of 2013.
As a Costume Shop Manager, he has worked for Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Indianapolis Repertory Theatre, GeVa Theatre, and The Berkshire Theatre Festival. As a draper he has created costumes for the Utah Shakespearean Festival, The Alliance Theatre, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Hartford Stage, Yale Repertory Theatre, Madison Repertory Theatre, American Players Theatre and Shakespeare Theatre in Washington DC. Jim has worked with Tony award winning designers Martin Pakledinaz, Catherine Zuber, and Ann Hould-Ward. He has designed for the Florida Shakespeare Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Whoop De Doo, GeVa, University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa as well as here at the UW-Madison.
Jim earned a M.F.A at the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign, IL and a B.F.A from Illinois Weslyan University in Bloomington, Illinois
